Help us to lose fitness tracker faster?
Nowadays many people pay more attention to their weight. A good figure and a healthy body weight have a high priority in today's society. Many use so-called fitness bracelets( fitness tracker) to lose weight faster and reach their dream figure, the authors explain. Even health insurance companies support the new trend. The Techniker Krankenkasse TK wants to finance fitness bracelets. Scientists are now investigating the impact of these fitness bracelets on weight loss.

Other weight management leads to greater success

The subjects carried a fitness tracker for more than 24 months. During this time the users lost about 2.4 kg of weight. However, this weight loss was lower than among the participants from the other study group. They used an internet site, which monitored their weight loss, says Dr. John M. Jakicic, of the University of Pittsburgh, Department of Health and Physical Activity. So the question arises: What do fitness tractors really bring?

study examines nearly 500 subjects with overweight
For their investigation, the researchers recruited nearly 500 subjects in Pittsburgh. The participants were between 18 and 35 years old and overweight. At first the subjects had to participate in some weekly meetings. In these, the weight changes were monitored and strategies on diet and exercise discussed, the experts say. Later, the subjects met only once a month and each participant made telephone conversations with counselors about his progress on weight loss.

subjects were divided into two groups
After six months, half of participants began to monitor their diet and physical activity via a website. The other half used a portable fitness tracker, the doctors explained. The device calculated, for example, the steps taken, the sleepy hours, and the burned calories.

After two years the weight loss was evaluated
After two years, the participants had lost an average of 3.5 kg with the portable fitness straps. Subjects who monitored their weight loss with the help of a website lost in comparison about 5.9 kg. Participants in both groups had improved body composition, fitness, physical activity and nutrition, the scientists explained.

Fitness strap as a motivation for sport
The results do not mean that so-called fitness bracelets do not work properly. There are so many factors that can affect weight loss. This makes it difficult to say whether the use of these devices is worthwhile or whether fitness tracers are generally not necessary for the achieved weight loss, say the experts. If a fitness strap motivates you to exercise, then it is certainly worth your money. But it's not a fashion statement or a trend for fitness trackers.

monitoring is helpful in successful weight management
Monitoring activity, behavior and nutrition is very important for weight management success. This monitoring facilitates weight loss enormously. Actually, sufferers only have to consume a reasonable amount of calories and additionally 30 to 60 minutes daily to perform a moderate to strong activity, the authors say. Monitoring the weight can help to achieve these goals.(as)
