According to a dpa report, 24 people are currently suffering from leg infections caused by legionella. In three of these patients legionellae could be directly detected in the bronchial secretion. There is thus the chance to create a genetic fingerprint of the pathogen and to match it with the samples from the cooling plant. In the other 21 patients the legionella were indirectly detected by antibodies in the blood.
